Bone Grafting

About Bone Loss

If you do not have enough bone tissue to support a set of dental implants, you may need to undergo a bone grafting procedure. Bone grafting is also necessary when a patient has lost a significant amount of bone because of a missing tooth. Let our oral and facial specialists put together a treatment plan that will help you maintain a beautiful new smile for life.

Types of Bone Grafting Procedures

We offer a few different types of bone grafting procedures to ensure successful placement of dental implants or just to restore bone tissue after extensive bone loss.

If you have had significant bone loss because of gum disease, tooth decay, or any type of facial injury, the bone at the injured site may have deteriorated substantially. Missing teeth that need to be replaced with dental implants require a supportive underlying bone structure. We may need to perform a major bone grafting procedure to replace lost bone and the process may include using donor material from your body or a tissue bank. In some cases, we will encourage tissue regeneration with platelet rich plasma (PRP), which promotes growth and healing.

Bone loss affects the size and shape of your jaw; in most cases, this will require a bone graft. We can perform a bone graft to restore the height and width of the bone tissue and to increase the success rates of dental implants and dentures.

The sinuses are located above the teeth and if there is not enough bone around the sinus area where you have lost a tooth, we may need to perform a bone graft by lifting up the sinuses. Our oral and facial surgeons will use a special technique to perform the sinus lift and create the stability needed for your dental implants.

Dental Implant Placement

If bone loss is too extensive, bone grafting may be required before dental implants can be placed. Once the graft has healed, dental implants can be placed to restore your smile.

Restore Facial Structure

Bone loss in the jaw can cause a shrunken in appearance that can make you appear older than you are. Bone grafting will restore the structure and shape of your face.

A Comfortable Denture

If you wear dentures and are experiencing discomfort, we recommend you come in for a free consultation to discuss options that can help.

Growth of New Bone

Bone grafts can also stimulate the production and growth of new bone. This will help strengthen your teeth and maintain your facial appearance.
