CAD/CAM

Las Vegas, NV

CAD/CAM stands for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. It is a process that has been around for decades in the manufacturing industry. Your home is full of CAD/CAM items, as is the car that you drive. While it has been around for a long time, it is only recently that CAD/CAM has made its way to dentistry. Here at Nevada Oral & Facial Surgery, we want to make sure that your dental problems are corrected as quickly and as beautifully as possible. That is what CAD/CAM is all about.

How Is CAD/CAM Used In Dentistry?

You might not think that technology that has to do with manufacturing would have a place in a dental office, but you would be wrong. CAD/CAM has been helpful to us, and also to you, in many ways.

Inlays, veneers, crowns, and bridges are a few of the ways that we can repair or replace a tooth. It is important that the new tooth or the new tooth surface will match your other teeth. That is where CAD/CAM comes in.

The first thing that we will do is that we will make a scan of your teeth, including the area that is going to be treated. We will then send that scan to the back so that your new tooth or tooth surface can be created.

While our staff is creating the new tooth in the back, we will have you in the dental chair so we can prepare the tooth. How much preparation your tooth needs will depend on what you are having done. A crown will take more preparation than a veneer, for example.

In just a few short minutes, your new tooth or tooth surface will have been created. Without CAD/CAM, you would have been sent home with a temporary tooth or tooth surface, but that is not the case with CAD/CAM. We can create the new tooth or tooth surface right away, so you will not have to wait.

We will then apply the tooth or tooth surface that was manufactured just for you. It was created to look natural, and to fit perfectly.

Once the new tooth or tooth surface has been applied, we will take care of things such as cementing and polishing. We want it to look perfect. You will then be able to leave with your new tooth or tooth surface.

Before CAD/CAM, it would take days or even weeks for a crown or a veneer to be created. With CAD/CAM, everything can be done in one day. This will save you time since you will not have to return to our office. It saves us time as well since we can take care of everything on the same day.
