Types of Sedation Dentistry Services

We offer three different types of sedation and will make a recommendation based on your level of fear and history. Types of sedation include:

Sedation

Intravenous (IV) Conscious Relaxation

This is typically administered during oral surgery procedures, such as wisdom tooth removal. It is very effective for patients with a very high level of fear. It involves administering sedative medication directly into the bloodstream and most patients will fall into a semi-conscious state. You will not have any memory of the procedure under this type of sedation and will need someone to drive you home.

Sedation

Oral Sedation

This type of sleep dentistry involves taking a sedative in the form of a pill about an hour before your appointment. You will feel drowsy and relaxed during your visit and will need someone to drive you home after your procedure. The drowsiness typically wears off within a few hours after treatment.

Sedation

Nitrous Oxide (N20)

Also known as laughing gas, this is a very effective method of relaxation and is easy to control. It is administered via mask and starts to work within minutes. You will be breathing in an odorless and colorless gas for a few minutes and the effects include a tingling sensation in the hands, and feelings of euphoria. Once the gas is stopped, you will start to feel normal within a few minutes.
